Before you start your application
1. Understand your obligations
Lobbyists, lobbyist organisations and government affairs directors must follow specific obligations outlined in the code of conduct.
You should read the code and be aware of your obligations.
2. Gather required information
To register your organisation, you'll need:
- your business name and trading name
- contact details for your organisation
- your Australian Business Number (ABN) (if you have one)
3. Add the details for each employee engaged in government affairs
You must add at least one government affairs director. You can add additional directors later on, once your organisation is registered.
For each director, you will need to include:
- their name and title
- any former affiliations they may have with government and when they took place.
4. Identify a responsible officer
The responsible officer is the best point of contact for your organisation and will manage its details on the register.
Your responsible officer does not need to register as a government affairs director unless they'll also be engaged in these activities.
For your responsible officer, you will need to include:
- their name and title
- their contact details.
